My Philosophy

  1. My work is my craft, which I wish to perpetually seek mastery of.
  2. Mastery means forever seeking to be the apprentice.
  3. Because mastery is actually boring.
    1. The musician who can make quite literally any song without struggle is bored.
    2. The artist who can paint anything they see is bored.
    3. The student still practicing basic arithmetic is bored.
  4. And boredom signals an opportunity for a new beginning.. so listen for its rumbling.
  5. Then impose new constraints. Real mastery is kicking away the latter every time.
    1. Seurat painted only with dots => Pointillism.
    2. e.e. cummings gave shape to poetry on a page.
    3. Shakespeare invented iambic pentameter.
    4. Perec decided to try writing without the letter "e."
    5. Gymnasts find new ways to defy gravity.
  6. Learning isn't linear. It's explosive, dynamic, alive. Full of creative tension, struggle, and overcoming.
  7. Love the climb, or leave the mountain. IT'S HILLY.
    1. Others may stumble upon an easier route from time to time.
    2. But the mountain is clear. Enjoy climbing it, and there is no doubt you will climb it high.
    3. Curiosity is your best compass. What are you curious about?
  8. You can choose anything to be YOUR craft.
  9. Then, ignite this fire unto others. Lead by example. Philosophy is to be spread.
